Garnet Hill Adventure Hike Saturday, Apr 12 10:00 am

Mass Audubon’s Arcadia Wildlife Sanctuary Easthampton, MA

Come out to the hidden hills of the Berkshire Plateau for a fascinating “off the beaten path” cultural and natural history hike at Garnet Peak in Peru Perched quietly atop the rim of several small “peaks”, 2,000-ft high Garnet Hill was named for the reddish mineral discovered here by early settlers Following trails built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, this moderate trek will explore traces of Peru’s agricultural past as we visit long-forgotten homestead sites and miles of stone walls meandering endlessly along the densely forested ridgeline Along the way, we’ll also discover CCC-era water holes and the crash site of a world war II military transport plane Nature has reclaimed this formerly cleared hilltop once dominated by grazing sheep but now home to moose, fisher and a diversity of other wildlife So lace up your water-proof shoes, pack a lunch and join us for this springtime journey to adventure. Registration is required. Call (413) 584-3009 for details. See http://www.massaudubon.org/catalog/listing.php… for more information.
